چکیده

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate clinical significance of a head-bending test in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) involving the posterior semicircular canal (PC-BPPV).Methods: We retrospectively recruited 256 patients with unilateral PC-BPPV between January 2016 and December 2021, assessed characteristics showing nystagmus (HBN).Results: Of patients, 138 (53.9%) showed HBN. Most (n=136, 98.6%) had downbeat (n=38) or without (n=98) torsional component. The remaining two pure upbeat nystagmus, respectively. component was directed contralesional side all. Between HBN, there were no significant differences such as age, lateralization, types BPPV (canalolithiasis cupulolithiasis), success rate repositioning maneuver. Conclusions: Head-bending may be useful predicting diagnosis lateralization PC-BPPV.

Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex Abnormalities in Posterior Semicircular Canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo: A Pilot Study

Introduction: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), involving the semicircular canals, is one of the most common diseases of the inner ear. The video head impulse test (vHIT) is a new test that examines the function of the canals. This study aimed to investigate the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) gain, gain asymmetry and saccades after stimulating all six canals in patients definitively d...

Lateral Semicircular Canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo diagnostic signs

I read with interest the article entitled Converting apo-geotropic into geotropic lateral canalolithiasis by head-pitching manoeuvre in the sitting position by Califano et al. 1. The Authors describe their experience in transforming the apogeotropic LSC BPPV (Lateral Semicircular Canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) into a geo-tropic one performing " a quick 60° forward exion and a slow ...

Otoconia and otolithic membrane fragments within the posterior semicircular canal in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common vestibular disorder with an incidence between 10.7 and 17.3 per 100,000 persons per year. The mechanism for BPPV has been postulated to involve displaced otoconia resulting in canalithiasis. Although particulate matter has been observed in the endolymph of affected patients undergoing posterior canal occlusion ...

[Efficacy of Epley maneuver in treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo of the posterior semicircular canal].

BACKGROUND/AIM Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is one of the most frequent peripheral vestibular system disorders. The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of the Epley maneuver in treating benign paroxysmal positional vertigo of the posterior semicircular canal (p-BPPV) and to discover possible causes of failure. METHODS This prospective study included 75 patients. In all the c...

Nystagmus discordance with 2-dimensional videonystagmography in posterior semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

OBJECTIVE The Dix-Hallpike test is a standard component of the videonystagmography test battery and can diagnose posterior semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of discordant, equivocal, and concordant nystagmus tracings in active posterior semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo when compared directly w...
